AIA Response to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Record of Decision

CLEWISTON, FL – The Record of Decision announced today is a monumental step forward in the Airglades International Airport, LLC (AIA) project for Hendry County, Florida and its chosen Developer. AIA has been working with its partners in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as part of its initial Airport Privatization Pilot Program for more than nine years, and having reached this final decision is a great accomplishment for everyone involved on the federal, state and local levels. AIA has also worked diligently with partners AvPORTS as airport operator and Star America as a private investor and equity provider.

A record of decision is a formal decision document published in the Federal Register. The FAA’s innovative airport privatization program was initially started in 1996 as a means of generating access to various sources of private capital for airport improvement and development. AIA is one of three airports currently in the program, a program re-authorized in 2018 as the Airport Investment Partnership Program.

AIA has successfully progressed through an exhaustive and comprehensive process over the past decade with the FAA that included an environmental assessment Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and expects to close by the end of February. This project represents significant economic opportunity for Hendry County and more than a thousand initial construction jobs anticipated for the region.

While this is a huge milestone, there is still work to be done, including construction contracts, bank financing, and remaining environmental and necessary due diligence to complete the transaction.
We look forward to working with our FAA, investor, operator, state and local partners as this exciting project continues. For more information, please visit https://www.airglades.com or contact AIA at aiainfo@airgladesairport.com
